Expression of Gratitude

Ms. Patricia Pelton served on Council as a Public Member for six years. Her exemplary Council service also included chairing the Finance & Audit Committee (2020-2024), sitting on the Governance Committee (2019-2023) and the CEO Review & Compensation Committee (2020-2024). She participated in several significant Council initiatives including Bill 21 (An Act to Protect Patients) and Bill 46 (separation of the college and the association) amendments to the Health Professions Act, governance during the COVID-19 pandemic, the shift from council elections to the appointments process, the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and recruitment for the Registrar (2019) and the CEO (2023). She was a valued contributor to Council discussions because she brought a breadth of experience from her years as a C-suite leader in health regions in Alberta, a volunteer on numerous boards and as a physiotherapist. We will miss her but are pleased to see her voice will continue to be heard in regulated health professions as she now serves as a Public Member for the College of Dental Surgeons. Thank you, Ms. Pelton, for the invaluable contributions you have made to CCOA and the regulation of the chiropractic profession!

New Public Members

Council is pleased to welcome Mr. Tony Choi and Ms. Shanine van Rooijen as new Public Members. Public members are necessary to the governance of a health profession as they ensure the public interest is paramount in decisions made by the Council.

Mr. Tony Choi has worked with Alberta Health Services for the past 18 years and is a Physician Resource Planner within Medical Affairs for the South Zone – West. In this role, Tony is engaged in strategic planning and workforce management to support the delivery of high-quality medical care across the region. He has served the Calgary Korean Association since 2019 and is currently President. His commitment to community service and cross-cultural engagement reflects his dedication to fostering inclusive, well-governed institutions across sectors.

Ms. Shanine van Rooijen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Alberta in 2020 and has since developed a diverse career as a clinical pharmacist. She brings experience in community pharmacy, continuing care and acute care and has served both rural and urban populations across central and southern Alberta. Shanine is currently pursuing her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary, deepening her commitment to improving equitable care and serving her community.

As the incoming 2025-2026 Council, we are committed to upholding the College of Chiropractors of Alberta's mission: serving and protecting patients through effective regulation that ensures safe, competent and ethical chiropractic care.

Regards,

Dr. Jason Hollingsworth, Chair
