Announcing three Council Appointments
On behalf of the Council of the College of Chiropractors of Alberta (CCOA), I am pleased to announce three new appointments.
Regulated Member Appointments
The following CCOA regulated members have been appointed to CCOA Council (Council) through the appointment process:
- Dr. Aurora Ongaro, for a three-year term, July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2027
- Dr. Moe Gebara, for a one-year term, July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025
For nearly 20 years, Dr. Ongaro has provided upper cervical (NUCCA) care to patients in Edmonton and throughout Alberta. Recognizing the importance of giving back to the profession, she has spent the past 15 years as a Clinical Advisor for the College and looks forward to serving the public interest in her new role on Council. Congratulations to Dr. Ongaro and we thank her for her service.
Dr. Gebara has been a regulated member since 2011, a CCOA Clinical Advisor since 2015 and a CCOA Investigator since 2022. He is a dedicated chiropractor who enjoys providing patient care and performing research. He strives to help move the profession forward by contributing to Council’s collective leadership. Congratulations to Dr. Gebara and we thank him for his service.
Having regulated members on Council is a privilege granted to the profession. The role of regulated members is not to represent the profession but to bring perspectives from the profession to Council as it governs in the public interest under the Health Professions Act.
Council extends sincere appreciation to all applicants for their interest and to the Governance Committee for managing the process. For information on the appointment process, including legislation and CCOA Bylaws, please visit About CCOA > Council > Appointments.
Public Member Appointment
We are pleased to welcome Michael Kim as a public member of Council. Mr. Kim was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor for a three-year term effective April 23, 2024. A public member's role is to bring an important public perspective to regulatory colleges that govern in the public interest.
Mr. Kim is an entrepreneur who has owned and operated many service-oriented businesses, including those in the fields of insurance, travel, banking and a start-up incubator for immigrants. Mr. Kim has served as the board chair of several charities and has received the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee medal in recognition of his service as the Chair of the board for an education-based charity in Calgary, Alberta.
Welcome Dr. Ongaro, Dr. Gebara and Mr. Kim!
